Exhibitions: This week, mac are hosting three brilliant exhibitions! ‘Made at mac presents textiles’ are showcasing the work ‘From Paper to Fabric’ course run at mac. To demonstrate the process of creating, and to share the experiences of those participating, our made at mac series exhibits course participants’ work. Our aim is to communicate the richness and quality of both the learning experience and the content produced on site at mac.
Also showing until this Sunday is ‘Disrupted’ by Noemi Lakmaier. Disrupted is a group exhibition that has been conceived for mac birmingham to directly respond to, and interact with, the arts centre venue, the building and its audiences. The artworks and installations exhibited here invite visitors to encounter the ‘Other’ – that which is different and unfamiliar, often remaining unseen in our day to day lives – and to engage with it in a familiar space.
Finally, mac are also exhibiting work from Trevor Appleson ‘Birmingham’ Appleson’s classic portrait photographs of carefully selected demographic groups made in his makeshift portable studio are now well known. In towns and settlements from Cape Town to Mexico City to Kibbutz Hatzerim in Israel, Appleson sets up on beaches, street corners, and other public spaces, enabling a captivating representation of place.
